For most of us who live in the Charbonneau community, the idea that we are actually living in the year 2026 seems surreal. Remember the 1968 film“ 2001: A Space Odyssey” where Hal,( a fictional artificial intelligence character) controlled the systems of the Discovery One spacecraft and interacted with the ship’ s astronaut crew? Well, in 1968 the idea of a computer taking control of anything seemed pretty farfetched … and scary. Well, here we are in 2026 and artificial intelligence appears in much of our everyday lives.
The good news is that Charbonneau offers many wonderful activities where you can meet and enjoy the company of humans. The 2026 Charbonneau activities calendar is brimming with lots of opportunities where you can meet new friends and enjoy time with old friends who share common interests.
Check out the Health and Wellness calendar in the“ hard copy” of the Villager. You can also find a complete list of activities and upcoming events in the Charbonneau Country Club online calendar, on the Activity Center Monitor and in a pamphlet located on the Activity Center front desk.
Of course, a New Year usually has us thinking about resolutions, often those that deal with healthier lifestyles including physical and mental exercise, that we may have let slide during the holidays. Therefore, after taking a look at some of the many activities offered, I thought a nice way to ease into a healthy New Year’ s Resolution might be to attend a Rusty Hinges Yoga class.
Rusty Hinges Yoga— For the not-so-bendy
This is a therapeutic and joyful practice designed for real people with real bodies.
Rusty Hinges Yoga is a uniquely therapeutic experience created by longtime teacher Toni Goss, who brings over 20 years of global training, anatomy study and hands-on teaching to her classes. Having worked with students from every walk of life and level of mobility, Toni has developed a healing, accessible method designed to support“ rusty hinges,” physical limitations and the natural changes that come with life.
Each class begins gently on your back, easing the body into a grounding, stretchy and strengthening journey. From there, Toni guides students into a soft hatha flow that may include warrior poses and supported balancing postures at the wall or barre. She incorporates props— bolsters, blankets and blocks— to ensure everybody can move safely, comfortably and confidently.
Toni’ s teaching is highly descriptive and educational. She explains why you’ re doing each pose and what part of the body it supports, helping students build awareness, strength and trust in their own movement. Every session includes breathwork, a safe inversion to encourage circulation and intentional spinal movement in all directions.
The class concludes with restorative yoga, using props to create active relaxation— a space where tension melts, anxiety softens and the nervous system resets. Students leave with a clear intention and a sense of renewal to carry into the day.
Toni especially loves offering early morning classes, where the rising sun becomes part of the practice— a quiet reminder of possibility, hope and new beginnings.
As someone who has navigated profound loss and physical challenges, Toni is living proof of yoga’ s ability
