I read Lauren Clem ’ s expansive , tragic article on the growing issue of homelessness in our state . Thank you for raising the profile of this ongoing problem . Sadly , while the state ’ s cities and towns grapple erratically with this burgeoning problem , most state leaders have failed to lead the way in providing sufficient affordable housing for the tens of thousands of those who are either without a place to call their own or dangerously close to it . The sole exception has been House Speaker K . Joseph Shekarchi , but one person , no matter how well-positioned , cannot do it alone .
Yet , as noted in this story , even in these dire times there are rays of hope , as seen in Providence and a few other communities . This article was written just before Woonsocket ’ s Task Force on Homelessness and Housing released its fifteen-page report on this issue in early October . We followed that in late October with an action plan aimed at addressing the needs of those who are homeless and the underlying issues that threaten so many others in our community with the same fate .
Perhaps you would be interested in doing a follow-up story on how one of the poorest communities in Rhode Island is working to make things better for the neediest in our city . God knows we could use some good news around this most challenging issue .

Rhode Island Monthly ’ s Redesign
I want to congratulate Doreen Chisnell ( creative director at Rhode Island Monthly ) and team on the stunning new update to the magazine this year . The visuals are crisp and the openers to each story / topic are a beautiful entry to the amazing content Rhode Island Monthly is known for . Well done !

I am behind on my reading and magazines — but I was reading during lunch today and wanted to say how fantastic the redesign looks . I really like the re-thinking of the sections as well . The new spread in dining is particularly wonderful — really like the multifaceted look at food news there .
Nice work and congrats !

Rhode Island Monthly Love
I recently subscribed to Rhode Island Monthly after years of not subscribing because it just wasn ’ t what I was hoping for . ( I was born at NAS Quonset Point , so Rhode Island is in my blood . I ’ ve been lucky enough to visit many times since the late ’ 80s and my favorite spots are Brenton Point and the Brick Alley Pub .)
I ’ m really happy I gave Rhode Island Monthly a second chance . There seems to be many more interesting articles on the state ’ s history and things to see and do . Since I don ’ t live here — all of my family is in Ohio — it ’ s nice to see more coverage of history and travel ideas as opposed to the best nurse or doctor issues , etc . No offense intended .
I ’ ll always think and speak highly of Rhode Island , except its politics , and go back often . My oldest grandson likes it and I ’ m hoping to take the other grandchildren there as well . RI Strong ! If that ’ s not a saying in Rhode Island , then it should be .
