Graphic designer and illustrator Matt Castigliego ’ s first illustration appeared in Rhode Island Monthly in 1990 . He illustrated this month ’ s cover and opener for “ A Flurry of Fun ,” but says his most recognizable work is the Rhode Island Community Food Bank ’ s apple tree logo . We tasked him with depicting a joyful winter day for the February issue . “ There ’ s something almost magical about a fresh snowfall ,” he says . “ It can transform a landscape into a softer , more serene place .”
Contributing photographer Wolf Matthewson captured Rom and Chris Marsella for this month ’ s feature on the Track 15 food hall , [“ On the Right Track ”] which was still under construction during the December photoshoot . “ Much of our time was spent searching for a suitable location ,” Matthewson says . “ But this unexpected tour of the premises was an amazing opportunity to appreciate the sheer vastness of Track 15 .” He ended up photographing the Marsellas on the bridge overlooking Track 15 and the city skyline , an angle that shows how Union Station will once again be a vital hub in the heart of Providence .
New contributing writer Tess Lyons has her pulse on the fashion and music scenes in Rhode Island . She started interning for Motif when she was only sixteen and currently works as the publication ’ s event planner and social media manager while finishing up her senior year at the University of Rhode Island , studying strategic communications . She ’ s a longtime vintage fan . “ Secondhand and thrifted fashion is all I wear , which is part of what drew me to Folk Vintage ,” she says . “ Putting more and more places on the map for people to shop sustainably is a passion project of mine .”
