LLA Plowing Facts , Shoveling Tips , and More !

The Winter Weather Plan is designed with residents in mind , with the focus on making roads passable and open for travel . A common and understandable request is for the LLA to plow snow from the street so it does not end up in driveways , or at the very least , that it only happens once . While the Association cannot accommodate this , we can explain the process and supply tips about how to minimize ( not eliminate ) the amount of snow that comes off the plows onto your driveway . To learn more about the Winter Weather Plan and how snow removal works , please read pages 8-9 .
Plowing Facts
• Snow is plowed from the center of a roadway toward the edge / curb and driveway aprons . Trying to direct the plow away from or lift the plow at each driveway would result in substantial amounts of snow being left on the street .
• Plowing requires multiple snowplow passes on each street and in each direction to get from the center to near the curb . On each of these passes snow spills off the edge of the plow .
• The length of the storm determines how many times the plows must pass down each street . Shoveling Tips
• When shoveling the end of the driveway near the street , place the snow to the right of the driveway ( as you face the street ). If it is piled on the other side , it will likely be pushed into the apron when the plow starts curbing ( plowing along the curb ).
• Clear a few feet of the edge of the street and curb to the left of the driveway ( as you face the street ). This clearing creates a pocket for the snow to spill into and will help reduce the amount of snow that ends up in the driveway apron .
• Please be mindful of fire hydrants in front of your home . It is always beneficial for residents to clear away snow around fire hydrants in front of their home or on their street as a precautionary measure .
Snow Removal Courtesies
• Please be mindful of your neighbors and other drivers during inclement weather .
• Move basketball hoops from the road right-of-way and streets .
• Keep roads and sidewalks clear of sleds , skateboards , bikes , and other toys .
• Minimize parking on road shoulders to allow the plows to clear the roads effectively ( utilize and optimize driveway and parking pads first ). Don ’ t forget there are overflow parking areas at Summerfield , West Winds , and Coldstream pools for extra vehicles during snowstorms .
• LLA is not liable for anything in the road right-of-way and street . This includes landscaping , retaining walls , toys , cars , etc .
• Anything along a Snow Emergency Route can and will be towed to allow for adequate plowing . Please reference the Winter Weather Plan on page 8 for a list of Snow Emergency Routes .
