A Note From The Editor :
It ' s an unfortunate fact that federal funding and grant money for animal-related causes is tenuous , and often nonexistent . Last month , the Lycoming County SPCA announced that vouchers for its Spay / Neuter program would not be available this year for low to moderate-income pet owners unable to afford the procedure . Shelter officials say they are seeking funding alternatives , but the program , which is crucial in controlling our burgeoning pet overpopulation , has not yet been restored .
Last week , the Clinton County SPCA alerted the community that its annual TNR ( Trap-Neuter-Release ) program hasn ' t received the necessary grant money this year to keep it running . TNR has been very successful in controlling the community ' s feral cat issue . To date , over 5000 cats have been sterilized and vaccinated . Considering the fact that one cat can produce a litter of 12 every year , that translates to preventing the birth of approximately 60,000 kittens destined to wander the streets ... hungry , alone , and homeless .
Here ' s a sweet idea for Valentine ' s Day this year - please consider sharing some love with animals that are way less fortunate than our own ! Make a donation to keep these critical programs going in our community .
