The joy of golf
The theme for the Charbonneau Women ’ s Golf Association this year is the “ Joy of Golf ,” and the joy has already begun in 2025 ! Between winter golf , winter luncheons ,
BOOK the membership drive and all the preparations for the official start of the golf season , we are all experiencing the joy of belonging to an organization that promotes the game of golf through fellowship , sportsmanship and competition among its members .
CWGA is 118-members-strong and growing . Sixty-five of our members have signed up to brave the cold and the Oregon mist to play winter golf on Tuesday and Thursday . It is surprising how many rounds of golf we have actually completed in spite of the weather . What I love about winter golf is a chance to practice new skills and experiment with different clubs in challenging circumstances without worrying about my score . Trying to figure out how to hit a clean iron shot out of the muddy rough or fairway , not playing safe and actually taking a shot for the green despite navigating over a sand trap or water allows for a test of capacity without regard for penalties . I believe all of us who have been playing on a regular basis would agree the laughter and fun is abundant in winter golf and , if we can keep our hands warm , truly joyful !
Our Winter Luncheons are another way that our Membership Committee is designed to keep us connected . The opportunity to meet new members and reconnect with returning members is definitely conducive to experiencing the joy during the offseason . Our first luncheon was held on Jan . 9 and was catered by Butteville General Store . Delicious homemade soups and ice cream were enjoyed by all who attended . Members shared a travel experience that was memorable . I was inspired by the members who told their story of their walk on the Camino in Portugal and Spain and the story of a member who experienced the joy and

disappointment of traveling with the Oregon Ducks football team when they won the Big Ten Championship and then were defeated at the Rose Bowl . Check out the photos of this great event ! If you missed out on this luncheon , be sure to watch for the signup notification for the next luncheon to be held on Feb . 6 . We are celebrating Women in Sports and Cheryl ’ s on 12th ; As Good As It Gets will cater this affair !
As we prepare for the 2025 golf season , CWGA has a new way of discovering what brings joy to our members . Our Co-Vice Presidents Deb Nemes and Sue Schneider are leading a task force called Members ’ Voices for the sole purpose of vetting ideas and suggestions though outreach to the larger CWGA membership . We are all excited to welcome the energy of this newly formed group , which will bring the voices of our members to the table . Stay tuned for more specifics as the who and what of Members ’ Voices take shape . Members ’ Voices is a welcomed addition to the CWGA organizational structure .
I am beginning to understand that there is really no offseason to CWGA golf ! The joy is in participating in all the activities CWGA has to offer . Winter Golf , Winter Luncheons and the preparations that are taking place in all of our
