Local food bank assists those in need in a variety of ways

Here in Charbonneau , we have a wonderful group of volunteers , led by David Olson , who advertise , coordinate , collect , and deliver the various donations to Wilsonville Community Sharing here in Wilsonville . Last month I reached out to Wilsonville Community Sharing / Food Bank Executive Director Leigh Crosby . I was wondering how many people there are in Wilsonville who we are assisting and Leigh was very happy and thankful for all the donations by our Charbonneau community . Leigh shared some very interesting numbers with me that I ’ d like to share with you . WCS serves 129 families each month , counting all the people in the house totals up to an average of 339 individuals served . The average amount of food collected each month is 3,300 pounds . Leigh mentioned that they serve Wilsonville residents in need at the food pantry , but they will also serve someone who is in need of food from outside the area and then help them to locate the closest location nearest to them to receive assistance in the future . Leigh mentioned that food is just a symptom of what is actually going on in a family ’ s situation , which is why they offer assistance with rent , utilities and other needs . They spent over $ 13,000 in assisting with PGE in 2024 , almost $ 15,000 in rental assistance and almost $ 1,700 in water assistance .
They do all this work with three fulltime members and two part-timers . They also get assistance via a 16,000 grant from the city of Wilsonville to help with the running of the operation each quarter . All the funds that they receive stays in Wilsonville to assist our community . Leigh mentioned that their needs change weekly and monthly here so it ’ s very hard to project what is in most need . They get the bulk of their donations from October-December and very small amounts during the rest of the year . Leigh expressed why Charbonneau ’ s continued assistance with the monthly food and cash drive helps them so much . The food that they need to purchase is purchased from The Oregon Food Band .
So , as you can see , we here in this Charbonneau community are a really big help to our fellow residents who can seriously use a little assistance from us and your help is greatly appreciated , thank you .
