MONTGOMERY ’ S FFA PARTNERS WITH MONTOURSVILLE ’ S FFA
This past year , Montoursvlle ’ s FFA , or Future Farmers of America , invited Montgomery ’ s FFA to attend the Annual Ag Day , hosted at agriculture teacher and FFA adviser Mr . Ben Hepburn ’ s farm . Many kids from Montoursville wondered why the Montgomery FFA was invited .
“ We wanted to see what it ( Ag Day ) was all about ! It also gave us an idea of something we could possibly do in the future and do our own take from it ,” said senior Montgomery FFA president Brynn Fisher . Montgomery has never had an Ag Day , but they plan to start their own version in the spring of 2025 at Montgomery ’ s agriculture teacher and FFA adviser Mr . Chris Ulrich ’ s farm .
Reflecting on her experience at Ag Day , junior Montgomery FFA officer Madison Budman said , ”… It was a great way to help others learn about specific things that are ag-related and to have a good day among my peers .”
The officer team from Montgomery ’ s FFA spent the night among Montoursville ’ s officer team at Hepburn ’ s farm the night before Ag Day to help get everything ready and enjoy the full Ag Day experience . They spent the night playing card games and keeping the fires alive while working hard to make enough apple butter for the following day .
When asked what they enjoyed about Montoursville ’ s Ag Day , Fisher said , “ I really enjoyed everything about it ! We were very thankful to be invited into the tradition to learn new things and meet new people !” In addition , Fisher expressed her appreciation for the overnight experience Montgomery ’ s officers got to have at the farm , and said , “ Staying up all night making apple butter was definitely an unforgettable experience !” Montgomery enjoyed their partnership with Montoursville for the Annual Ag Day event , and plans to partner with Montoursville more in the future .
Agriculture is important to many , and it is important the skills and values learned from it continue to be taught and preserved – passed down to future generations . When asked about why this is so , junior Montgomery FFA officer Matthew Moser said , “ It is important because I feel like some of the skills we teach aren ’ t taught to a lot of kids , and it ’ s great for them to learn .” Teaching kids something like this can help them reach out of their comfort zone and learn new things that will help them in the future .
Ulrich said , “ I was never in FFA , but I am proud to be an Ag teacher and advise an FFA Chapter .” He cares about the future of agriculture , teaching students the important things about agriculture they will need later in life . - by Leah Kaufman
