“ This is one time where television really fails to capture the true excitement of a large squirrel predicting the weather . I , for one , am very grateful to have been here . From Punxsutawney , this is Phil Connors . So long .” - Bill Murray as Phil Connors in “ Groundhog Day ”.
PRESIDENT ’ S MESSAGE
It took Bill Murray the majority of the movie to warm to Groundhog Day , but I , for one , am very thankful to the prognosticator of prognosticators , Mr . Punxsutawney Phil for not seeing his shadow , and bringing about an early Spring !
Spring may not be here yet , but with February weather in the 30 ’ s and 40 ’ s , and occasional 50 , construction season has certainly been extended this season , with an even more positive weather outlook on the horizon . With all these great projects being built we look forward to an ample supply of applications to review for the ASCE-NH OCEA Award ! This prestigious award honors a Grantie State project that best illustrates superior civil engineering skills and represents a significant contribution to civil engineering progress and society . Honoring an overall project rather than an individual , the award recognizes the contributions of many engineers . The application can be found by following the above link and carries with it a nomination deadline to be postmarked / emailed by Aprill 14 th , so don ’ t delay !
Congratulations to the New Hampshire Chapter of the National Society of Professional Engineers ( NSPE-NH ) Engineer and Young Engineer of the year , who were honored at the 73 rd Annual Engineers Week Banquet & Exhibition . Follow the link above to read all about the deserving winners .
As we look forward to March , the 6th Annual Engineers Day Conference will be held virtually on March 5 th through 7 th . Attendees can earn up to 6-PDHs and all conference proceeds go to the ASCE-NH Scholarship Fund . Event sponsors are needed to allow ASCE-NH to continue supporting our aspiring young engineers , so please help us replenish our ranks and consider one of our sponsorship opportunities .
Closing out March our Lunch and Learn series will be hearing from Brendan Fitzpatrick , P . E . on “ Addressing Foundation Challenges with Ductile Iron Piles ”. A link to register can be found in this month ’ s newsletter .
