JD SCHRAMM, EdD, not only has a compelling story of recovery from depression and addiction (his TED talk has over 2 million views) but he's been highly successful at causing others to craft and share their stories. For 13 years he designed and led the communications curriculum at Stanford's Graduate School of Business (where he was also a Toastmasters sponsor for a few years).

JD has coached speakers from a wide range of disciplines to speak their truth at TED, Davos, South by Southwest, the Aspen Ideas Festival and more.

JD is the author of Communicate with Mastery (Wiley 2020). His forthcoming book, The Bridge Back: my journey from the edge of death to the center of life, chronicles his 18 year journey of recovery after a near-fatal suicide attempt. In addition to coaching leaders to communicate effectively, he volunteers weekly for the Crisis Text Line.

JD holds his Ed.D. in higher education leadership from the University of Pennsylvania, his MBA from NYU's Stern School of Business, and his BFA in theater from Emporia State University in Kansas.

Carolyn Charney, DTM

A Charter member of Destined for Excellence. She has served District 56 as an Area Director, TLI (Toastmasters Leadership Institute) Co-chair, Trainer, Club officer and Pathways Ambassador. Carolyn currently earns a living as a Software Compliance and IT Asset Manager, a fancy title for a Program Manager at an international insurance company. Now serving as the district Administration Manager and Public Relations Manager, her advice is, "Hang on, and enjoy the ride"

Chandra Munagavalasa, DTM
