February 2022 ASCE-NH Newsletter | Page 3

PRESIDENT ’ S MESSAGE

The days are currently cold , occasionally warm ( -ish ). Weekly snow , sleet , rain , or the proverbial ‘ all of the above ’ storms consume the forecasts . Cloudy days with brutal winds are followed by bright and sunny days – but with minimal snow / ice melt that always have me questioning whether the sun still works . Hooray for February ! For a peak behind the curtain , as I write this month ’ s message the Super Bowl hasn ’ t occurred yet ; however , as you read this issue of the Newsletter it will have been played . Similarly , Happy Valentine ’ s Day ( possibly belated ). As an admitted winterhater , at least we are past the halfway point .

For those that love winter though , I hope you have been enjoying it thus far . Notably , ASCE-NH ski enthusiasts were able to participate in the triumphant return of the annual Ski Day . Word on the street is that it was a phenomenal event that featured over a foot of fresh snow . A special thank you to Past-Presidents Jay Hodkinson ( GZA ) and Matt O ’ Brien ( McFarland-Johnson ) for coordinating and presenting at the event ; your efforts and dedication are greatly appreciated . Checkout the article about the return of Ski Day within this issue of the Newsletter .

ASCE-NH continues to schedule our Monthly Lunch & Learn Webinar Series and we remain on-track to offer a free , 1-PDH webinar once a month through June . Thank you to January ’ s presenter , Don LeBlanc ( DLVEWS ) and all who attended ; we had over 100 attendees ! Continue to watch your email or check the Newsletter for promotional information and registration . This Newsletter contains registrations for both February and March !

February also marks the return of the New Hampshire Chapter of the National Society of Professional Engineers ( NSPE-NH ) 71 st Annual Engineers Week Banquet . This event is being held on Tuesday , February 22 nd , at the Grappone Center in Concord . Like past years , this will be a great event and a wonderful opportunity to earn PDHs while reconnecting with professionals in and around the NH area . Early congrats to the EOY and YEOY recipients !

Like the closing of last month ’ s message , please remember that this is the time of year when we start to think about next year ’ s ASCE-NH leadership team . If you have ever considered serving on the Board , getting more involved , or volunteering at any of our annual events ( YM Group , Golf Outing , Engineers Day Conference , etc .), please don ’ t hesitate to reach out . There are always opportunities / ways to participate ; like Past-President Hugh Scott always says – “ Teamwork makes the dream work .”

Be safe and I wish you all the best !!

Aaron
