Senior Living :

The Comforts of Home

Two local senior living facilities share how they are continuing to ensure the comfort of their residents amidst the pandemic . By Kaitlyn Murray
THIS PANDEMIC HAS BEEN TOUGH ON EVERYONE , but between the highly contagious nature of the virus and its harsh effects on those of advanced age and / or on those with chronic medical conditions , it ’ s pretty safe to say that no population has been more adversely affected than the senior living community . Assisted living facilities , nursing homes and the like have been hit hard across the country , and unfortunately , Rhode Island communities were not immune to the hardship . However , if there ’ s a bright side to any of this , it ’ s that our senior living institutions have persevered . They have learned , stepped up and adjusted , and are more committed than ever to not only protecting residents , but also providing them with enriched , fulfilling lives despite the circumstances . We asked two local facilities , Briarcliffe Gardens , a memory care assisted living residence in Johnston , and Saint Antoine Community , a North Smithfield-based campus comprised of Saint Antoine Residence nursing care and the Villa at Saint Antoine assisted living , to share their experiences , adjustments and takeaways .
