FYI ANKUR A part of Arvind Limited, Ankur is one of India’s largest suppliers of Indian couture fabrics. Ankur is also touted to be India’s largest ‘organised’ manufacturer of voile, and has a repute of having the shortest lead time. The brand offers a range of colours in this category, and boasts a solid lexicon of dealers, which are present throughout the country. Ankur’s repertoire includes modal, viscose, and cotton, along with myriad blended fabrics. The brand’s latest collection features vibrant fabrics of varying qualities and themes—from traditional batik and florals to geometric motifs and the much-loved block prints. The brand exports its voile to countries such as Switzerland, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and those in the Middle East. Ankur’s clientele includes prominent names such as Reliance Trends, Marks & Spencer, Tommy Hilfiger, Robert Graham, River Island, and many more. The brand majorly caters to the domestic market. It prides itself on its portfolio of over 500 products, a chain of 200 dealers, and nearly 7,500 retail flagships across the country. Ankur also plans to produce smart fabrics that are soil-resistant and oil-repellent, and have thermal properties and features such as moisture management. Also on the cards is experimentation with fibres such as nylon. It has recently also launched into high-end prints, which it offers to both domestic and international markets. Over the years, Ankur has taken up many green initiatives—it has reduced its carbon footprint by about 17 per cent. It has also installed an electrostatic precipitation facility and sewage treatment plant. The machines, too, have been engineered in a way that they cut down on acid consumption during the process of carbonisation. Additionally, Ankur ensures that it partners with companies and businesses that share the brand’s ethos. 134 I APPAREL I February 2020
