of the terms elegance , classiness , versatility , chic , sartorial , and simply easy . Coco Chanel stated , “ Black wipes out everything else around . Women think of all colors except the absence of colors . I have said that black has it all ”. I could not have agreed more , and here ’ s why . Whether it is lace , mesh , net , leather or simply cotton , the color speaks louder than the materials . It is assumed that when fashion is labeled or classified as easy , it is immediately associated with being boring or requiring no effort . That statement has partial truth , and a bit of bias . For starters , boring is based on perception . Secondly , as a woman of simplicity , I take pride in piecing together styles with ease . It then delivers the true effortless appeal in my personal sense of style . Simple does not , well should not equate to plain . Although it is often overlooked , it is never underrated . Influential Japanese fashion designer , Yohji Yamamoto , once said “ Black is modest but arrogant at the same time ”. Dressing in black delivers boldness because it can make THAT statement without the assistance of a gaudy pattern , print , or color to draw attention . It demands it . Being a lover of all things black , I believe that the color black is Unborable . A word made up by David Foster Wallace , unborable was explained like this . “ If you are immune to boredom , there is literally nothing you cannot accomplish ”. In reference to the color , this is my interpretation : Regardless how it ’ s paired , used as a base , or thrown together into the mix of an outfit … it never looks the same if you don ’ t let it . So this season , fight the boredom ! If you choose to wear the expected , add your own touch of style to make it the unexpected . Fashion is truly a repetition of ideas . The way you put it together is what
makes it your own and new . Being knowledgeable while also having the willingness to learn and adapt to what suits you best is what makes your sense of style so rewarding .
“ I love black because it affirms , designs , and styles . A woman in a black dress is a pencil stroke .” – Yves Saint Laurent
