The great Lent
Great lent is the holiest fast in our beautiful Coptic Orthodox church . It is considered so because the Lord Himself fasted it . Therefore , the great Lent for us is a great time and the most important time of the year . It is an essential element of the Christian life . Our Savior teaches us to do acts of mercy to others and our church emphasizes the importance of doing merciful acts especially during fasting . It is a period of time to do good deeds such as feeding the hungry and taking care of the needs of others . It is also a time of making peace with one another . It is a period of reconciliation and evaluating our relationships with each other . The great lent is the six-week duration before Palm Sunday . During these weeks there is an important lesson that is discussed every Sunday . Pope Athanasius of Alexandria has recorded his experience about Lent by asking us not to fulfill these days like those that mourn , but by enjoying spiritual food , let us try to silence our fleshly lusts . For by these means we shall have strength to overcome our adversaries . It is important to be prepared for fasting and know the reason for it is glorifying God . It is a special relationship between Him and us . May the Lord God help us all to set our eyes on heaven by preparing ourselves to place God and His commandments first in our hearts and daily lives .
