Membership continues to grow
The new year brings resolutions and renewals for Charbonneau Sports Center . We have successfully finished membership renewals for 2024 . This year the members were required to come in and pay , receive the rules and information , get their picture taken and receive their guest passes . It took many volunteer hours , but now we have accurate member information and a lot of money was saved on postage and Charbonneau Country Club staff hours to complete the task . We felt it was necessary to change procedures this year , because of the vast increase in membership . Last year at this time , pickleball and tennis membership combined was at about 300 . Today we have over 500 members ! It is an exciting time to be a part of these Charbonneau amenities . Here is a glimpse of a life as a tennis member and

with an event that included a wonderful meal catered by Market Cafe and music provided by Charbonneau ’ s own Two Bit Brothers . Not only can our members play tennis , they can also dance !
This must be why tennis players live longer right ? Did you know that when you research tennis benefits , one thing that comes up repeatedly is that by playing a few times a week , even at a moderate level , it can extend your life by up to 10 years ?! This is because tennis gives you a full body , physical workout . It increases your balance and agility skills , while strengthening your bone mass . There are even mental health benefits to playing tennis . It reduces stress , lifts your mood and makes you work on being alert and using your critical thinking skills .
The first of the year is a great time to make your own healthy New Year ’ s resolution . Maybe you would like to give it a try . We offer individual as well as family memberships ( which includes kids and grandkids under 22 years of age ). For Charbonneau residents there is a one-time $ 100 initiation fee and then the annual dues are $ 365 for a single membership and $ 555 for a family membership . SPEAK UP ! Your views have value

First : I fully support the initiative to create a new section in the Villager for public feedback from residents regarding articles from previous publications , or just something that is on their minds . I think we need more resident views published in the Villager . When I ’ m at neighborhood gathering or a community-wide event , I often hear informative and passionate views about something going on in Charbonneau . There is certainly no lack of opinions about living in Charbonneau . Many views are complaints or disagreements with the status quo , but the majority are complementary or appreciative of the amenities and quality of life in our community .

There are some projects initiated outside of Charbonneau that unite almost all residents ( e . g . airport expansion , tolls on I-5 , bridge expansion ) and some others that tend to divide us . There are often discussions and views about HOA Board decisions ( i . e . both CCC and the many other neighborhood HOAs ). Social media ( e . g . Facebook , Nextdoor . com ) is often a place where opinions and views are expressed – some respectful , others not so much . I follow some of these channels from time to time just to keep informed . Sometimes I learn something new about a topic , or I am influenced by a view that altered or tested my perspective and opinion . It takes some time and effort to be fully informed .

channel between community leaders and the residents of Charbonneau . These leaders need feedback that will help them learn and adjust their perspectives . Over the past years , I ’ ve been asked to provide input or author a Villager article on several topics ( sports center , art festival , music stage concerts , HOA budgets , reserve studies , etc .). In my experience , an article that is respectful and thoughtful will likely get published and may influence the views and opinions of others . I encourage my Charbonneau friends and neighbors to write down their opinions and perspectives and share them with your fellow Villager readers .

Charbonneau and enjoying the convenience and low cost of the many residents ’ amenities : marina , RV storage lot , sports center , fitness center , clubhouse , activity center , pavilion and golf . Many residents describe Charbonneau as a “ cruise ship on land ,” and the many amenities certainly feel that way . Over the past 10 years , I ’ ve also learned that some residents describe their desired lifestyle as “ aging in place ” and do not participate in sports amenities or social activities . But for us , we have developed many more neighbor relationships in Charbonneau than any prior neighborhoods over our 50-plus years of home ownership . Charbonneau is different and more enjoyable and engaging in ways that we feel keep us active and healthier than our previous communities . This is our view and opinion . What is yours ?
