Dear Parents and Carers
Thanksgiving Mass for David Stone
I know that Mr Stone would like me to thank, on behalf of himself and his family, all those people
who helped prepare and attended the recent celebration Mass offered in thanksgiving for his
seventeen loyal and distinguished years of service as Headteacher of Corpus Christi.
All who attended agreed that this was a wonderful evening and the large number of people present
at the Mass is testament to the affection and respect in which Mr Stone is held.
We were so pleased that representatives of the Archdiocese, Cardiff Education Authority, past and
present Headteachers (both primary and secondary) from the Catholic sector and beyond attended
in such large numbers. Furthermore, Mr Stone was delighted to see so many present and former
pupils, staff and parents present on what was a very special occasion.
I would like to thank Canon Matthew Jones, Canon Peter Collins, the Reverend Dr Philip Mangan
and our own Deacon Rob Coyne for celebrating the Mass.
Special thanks must go to all those pupils who made such a memorable contribution to the evening
acting as readers or part of our fabulous choir and orchestra.
Appointment of our new Headteacher
The Governing Body of Corpus Christi would like to announce that Mr Christopher Belli has been
appointed as Headteacher. I am sure that you would like me to welcome him to the school on your
behalf and wish him every success in his new role.
School Transport
As I write, Cardiff Council is conducting a consultation on the intention to cut £300,000 from their
budget allocated to school transport.
I do not anticipate any reduction in provision for any of our existing pupils in terms of routes and
services. Nevertheless, a number of our pupils who do not qualify for free bus passes i.e. who live
within three miles and therefore pay to travel to school, will have to pay more for their daily travel
as the Council is withdrawing an existing subsidy. If any parents are concerned that this may affect
them I would encourage you to visit the Council website and search within “Schools Transport”.
Uniform
Could I issue another reminder that all outdoor coats worn by pupils must be black. You may recall
that this was mentioned in our previous newsletter and I urge all parents to adhere to this
longstanding school uniform regulation.
