FDrive GS BATTERIES: HOW TO SPOT A GENUINE WARRANTY | Page 3

UNDERSTANDING YOUR If your car is experiencing electrical problems, it could be due to the condition of the battery. A simple test could determine if the battery is at fault, with the most common results described below. (The following is a guide using the YUASA MDX 617(P) battery tester.) GOOD & RECHARGE TESTER SCREEN DOES NOT ILLUMINATE, TEST NOT POSSIBLE Check the connections between the tester and the battery. If connections are OK check the battery voltage with a voltmeter Voltmeter reading less than 0.5 Volts – ACCEPT WARRANTY CLAIM and replace battery – (do not attempt to charge this battery!) Voltmeter reading between 0.5 and 9.0 Volts – REJECT WARRANTY CLAIM as the battery is unserviceable due to over discharge Send for further investigation as it could cause a serious vehicle fault/malfunction GOOD BATTERY REJECT WARRANTY CLAIM Battery is in a serviceable condition and voltage and state of health are good Return battery to service CHARGE & RETEST REJECT WARRANTY CLAIM The voltage of the battery is low and as a result the tester indicates a low Cold Cranking Amperage (CCA) reading The battery must be charged in-store so that its serviceability can be determined by a second test If GOOD BATTERY is the result of the second test, return the battery to service If CHARGE & RETEST is the result of the second test, the battery is unlikely to recover due to sulphation caused by deep discharge REJECT WARRANTY CLAIM Battery state of health is good, however measured battery voltage is low and battery is at risk of premature failure. Battery must be charged prior to returning to service Lights or accessories left on or infrequent use. (Battery is not being sufficiently charged on short journeys. Most common during Winter with frequent accessory use) Charging system fault or uncontrolled electrical discharge – (investigation required as cause could be a serious vehicle fault/ malfunction) REPLACE ADVISED BAD CELL ACCEPT WARRANTY CLAIM The battery has a manufacturing/material defect – if within the warranty period, replace the battery immediately REJECT WARRANTY CLAIM The state of health of the battery is poor and is likely to be unreliable going forward Whilst the battery may still be capable of starting, the vehicle it is likely to fail in the short term The battery has lost performance due to external factors and can no longer deliver performance Possible causes are undercharging, overcharging, deep cycling, battery ageing and wear/tear HOW TO MAINTAIN YOUR BATTERY Always operate a FIFO (First In First Out) stock rotation system Don’t stack loose batteries on top of other batteries Batteries should be installed onto a vehicle with a minimum voltage of greater than 12.50V Check the battery voltage regularly – especially before dispatch to the customer Ensure recharge labels are updated after 6 months Ensure that the right battery is fitted to vehicle – every time Recharge when the battery voltage level drops to/below 12.50V or when the battery recharge date has been reached UK part numbers are box sizes only and do not necessarily mean the correct spec – use the online ‘GS Battery Finder’ Store in a cool, dry and well-ventilated area, off the floor in an upright position with the carrying handles flat down Use the battery recharge label to identify the expected first recharge date to ensure older batteries leave stock first GS GOLD GS SILVER Protect batteries from excessive heat GS BRONZE CONVENTIONAL GS EFB START STOP GS AGM START STOP PLUS NEXT GENERATION GS LEISURE LEISURE THE GS BATTERIES RANGE 7203 GS Batteries Warranty A5 4pp INNERS REV4.indd 1 03/10/2016 16:16
