On February 10th the Brentwood Fire Department was alerted for a house fire at 1487 Spur Drive North. Upon arrival of
Assistant Chief Edward Kelly [3-2-33] a working fire signal was
quickly transmitted for a fire in an attached garage. First-due
Engine 3-2-11 hit the hydrant and its crew went to work making
an aggressive interior attack. Firefighters were able to contain
most of the fire to the garage with only slight extension into the
house. Mutual aid was requested from Islip Fire Department.
HAUPPAUGE
CO Alarm Prompts Evacuation

In the morning hours of Sunday, February 14th, the Hauppauge Fire Department and Central Islip-Hauppauge Ambulance responded to a report
of a Carbon Monoxide [CO] alarm going off in Building 19 of the Devonshire Hills apartment complex. There was also a report of two people
presenting with symptoms of CO poisoning. When the first units arrived
they found two adults with complaints of being lightheaded, and crews
received readings on the CO meters of 55 ppm. Under the command of
Chief Eugene Oliver [3-8-30], members of Truck Company 1 and Engine
Company 1 entered the building and located the source of the problem
which was a boiler in the basement. The boiler was shut down and the
bui lding was evacuated by firefighters who also began venting the various
apartments. Ambulance personnel treated and transported the victims.
Units operated on scene for 30 minutes.
