At approximately 2000 hours, on Wednesday, February
17th, the Malverne Fire Department was dispatched to a
report of a house fire in the vicinity of the Grace Lutheran Church on Hempstead Avenue. When the first chief
arrived on scene he was met with smoke and embers in
the area and he traced them to a home at 5 Dogwood
Avenue which was on fire. A Signal 10 [working fire] was
transmitted and Franklin Square Fire Department was
notified for the FAST and for an ambulance. Also called
to the scene were ladders from the Lynbrook and Valley
Stream Fire Departments and an engine from Lakeview Fire Department. Firefighters were able to make a
quick knockdown using two lines off of first-due Engine
431. The main body fire was located on the exterior part
of the home on the number four side. The home had
recently been undergoing construction and the cause
of the fire was under investigation. Rockville Centre
Fire Department’s Ladder 449 and Lynbrook Fire Department’s Engine 422 stood by during the operation.
