“Tool” Put to Work at Overturn Story by Jeff DiLavore Photos by Jim LoDuca FD Rant News - October 2016 KINGS PARK In the late afternoon of Sunday, September 11th, the Kings Park Fire Department was activated for a Signal 16/23 [motor vehicle accident] with overturn and entrapment at the intersection of Saint Johnland Road and Soundview Avenue. Upon arrival of Heavy Rescue 4-1-9, crews encountered a car on its side, off the road, and into thick brush with a driver trapped. Crews stabilized the vehicle and put multiple extrication tools to work as members of EMS treated the patient. After nearly 20 minutes, the patient was removed from the vehicle and transported to Stony Brook Hospital with undisclosed injuries. MIDDLE ISLAND Overturn and Fuel Leak Story and Photo by T.J. Lambui Just prior to 3:00pm on Monday, September 12th, the Middle Island Fire Department was called out for an MVA; a tractor trailer, hauling sand, flipped on to its side while turning onto Bailey Road from Rocky Point Road. The driver of the truck was injured and taken to hospital by department ambulance. Suffolk County Police 7th Precinct units responded as well as the Police Motor Carrier Safety Unit. Bailey Road was closed in both directions for a time. RIDGE Pizza To-Go Story and Photos by T.J. Lambui The Ridge Fire Department responded when the Carlo’s Pizzeria’s storefront in East Yaphank was damaged after the driver of a BMW drove through it at approximately 10:45am on Monday, September 12th. The accident occurred at the Royal Plaza shopping center at the intersection of Moriches Middle Island Road and Glen Drive. One woman in the vehicle suffered minor injuries. The storefront was heavily damaged and both a fire marshal and a building inspector were called to the scene. Page 23
