During the 1960s, farms
became more mechanized
and most expansion occurred
through the use of more and
increasingly sophisticated
equipment. Then, in the 1970s,
biotechnology began replacing
equipment. Before the use of
chemicals, the conventional
method was to plow a field,
disc it, harrow it, plant it, and
then cultivate it once or twice
before harvesting the crop.
Now, farmers could make
one pass over a field to apply
chemicals, plant the crop, and
never go back until it was time
to harvest.
Just as the farmers were expanding, so were the associations.
The new Fayette office is launched with a ribbon cutting in 1973.
