The Federal Land Bank
Association of Carthage held its own
observance of the fiftieth anniversary
of the Federal Land Bank System with
a dinner held at the C & W Café in
Carthage on March 31, 1967. Governor
Warren Hearnes designated April
Federal Land Bank month in Missouri
though Oral Yancey, manager of the
association, declared the occasion
a tribute to “America’s Farmers:
Providers of Plenty.” According to
Yancey, the average farmer in 1967
was producing food for nearly thirtyseven people compared with only
fifteen in the early 1950s. The Federal
Land Bank Association of Carthage by
then had five hundred members and
outstanding loans totaling $5 million.
The invitation to the fiftieth anniversary banquet held
on Monday, April 3, 1967, at C. & W. Café in Carthage,
Missouri.
Governor Warren E. Hearnes
affixes his signature to a
proclamation designating
April as “Federal Land
Bank Month” in Missouri as
Ralph E. Nowlan, president of
the Federal Land Bank of St.
Louis, looks on, April 1967.
