FCS Financial: One Hundred Years July 2016 | Page 125
FCS Financial sponsored the Missouri Department of Agriculture’s National Ag Day
event at Fischer Farms in Jefferson City in March 2015. First-grade students from
Pioneer Trail Elementary and second-grade students from St. Joseph Cathedral
School visited Fischer Farms to learn about agriculture. Students rotated through
activity stations to learn about planting and harvesting crops, tending to farm
animals, and providing food to consumers. One of the students’ favorite parts,
the pizza activity station, allowed attendees to learn exactly where different pizza
ingredients come from while making their own paper pizza.
it causes a discussion, and I think that understanding will just help
agriculture in the future,” he said. “There’s a place for all kinds of
agriculture—organic, sustainable, and commercial agriculture.”
Those farmers who laid the foundation for the world of
agriculture would now have a difficult time grasping the modern
methods employed in the production of the world’s food supply.
There is no question farming will continue evolving and FCS
Financial is positioned to face the challenges of a technology-driven
world. “At one time,” David mused, “folks viewed farming and
agriculture as a sleepy, backward, not very progressive industry when
in fact, just the opposite is true. If you look at some of the equipment
folks use on the farms and ranches, it’s extremely technology-based
with global positioning systems, precision planting, and other
applications.” Indeed, the farmer who plowed his rows with a mule
team would likely stare at disbelief at a young farmer adjusting his
fertilizer by using an iPad.
