FCS Financial: One Hundred Years July 2016 | Page 78

The BioStar The now familiar green BioStar, closely resembling a lucky four-leaf clover, was launched in 1985 (according to farmcreditnetwork.com) to portray Farm Credit as a strong, unified national network ready to meet the challenges of a changing and competitive financial industry. The BioStar is a symbol of progress and commitment consisting of five visual elements: three leaves, a root system, and a star. The leaves represent the three types of lending done by the Farm Credit System—longterm, intermediate-term, and short-term. The roots represent the member-borrowers, and the star represents light and direction. For Chad McCollough, loan officer in the Chillicothe office, the BioStar has a simpler, yet no less meaningful, interpretation o f this plant-like symbol. “The roots help us to remember our own roots, where we’ve come from, while keeping our eye on our growth,” he said. “That’s where the future is.” 74 Selected References
