The Fun
Foster Care Support Foundation July 17 , 2024 – Roswell , GA - We first learned about the Foster Care Support Foundation ( FCSC ) in July 2024 . FCSC is a non-profit organization that serves all Georgia counties by providing free clothing , infant equipment and other necessities to thousands of children in foster and relative care . About 75 % of the 4500 children served in Georgia are now raised by a grandparent or other relatives . We loaded our two vans with eight children , two grandmothers and several staff members and traveled to Roswell , GA .
Following an in-depth application process , these children were gifted with food items , seasonal clothing , school supplies , books , age-appropriate toys and even a few bicycles ! We felt like we were driving Santa ’ s sleigh on the way home ! After a Chick-fil-A lunch we returned safely to Blue Ridge .
Pizza & Bowling – July 18 , 2024 – Fannin Lanes - The day following the Roswell trip we planned a pizza / bowling party at Fannin Lanes in Blue Ridge . After “ wearing out ” the arcade games with fun Family Care supplied , bowling was on ! Each child was wearing clothes they had gotten from Roswell the day before and were so excited ! There was a great deal of “ whooping and hollerin ’” going on during the bowling ! One child was so excited he asked , “ what are we doing tomorrow ?”
Back to School Bash – July 27 , 2024 – Fannin High School - The annual Back-to-School Bash , sponsored by Fannin County High School , was held July 27 , 2024 . Numerous community sponsors participated in the event and 548 children were registered . There were kids EVERYWHERE from the minute the doors opened at 9am . There were tables stacked high with notebooks , backpacks and every imaginable school supply needed to start the school year .
Fannin County Family Connection participated with hundreds of very nice t-shirts donated to FCFC by The Groovy Zoo . In addition , FCFC supplied 30 pantry boxes full of food . They quickly disappeared and a quick trip back to the pantry was needed to replenish our supplies . Our inside booth provided a great deal of information on local resources and on FCFC itself .
August 1 , 2024 , Family Support Newsletter - As activities increased between Family Care Support Meetings , I felt it important to come up with a way to keep our families informed of past and upcoming events : The answer is The Family Care Newsletter which is mailed out each month ! Our first newsletter was Augus and the second Sept . 30 .
Kiwanis Annual Rodeo – August 16 , 2024 - Each August the Kiwanis Club of Blue Ridge sponsors a Rodeo ! They provided tickets and Kiwanis “ bucks ” for our Family Care families . With the “ bucks ” and cash provided by Family Care these kids went sorta ’ wild ! We outfitted everyone in red t-shirts to better keep up with all kids ( and grandparents !). One of our boys won an ice cream cake from Baskin and Robbins and one of our girls won a door prize , a basket filled with wonderful goodies !
The kids got to participate in rodeo events such as the cattle chase , get the ribbon off the cow ’ s tail , mechanical bull riding , ands bungee jumping . Everyone was having a wonderful time until the RAIN came !! As a matter of fact , they continued to have fun , as soaked as they were ! All families , staff , and volunteers arrived safely back at fcfc , concluding a fun-filled night !
A huge thank you to Kiwanis for giving tickets and Kiwanis “ bucks ” to our adults and children in Family Care .
Financial Literacy Class – September 12 , 2024 - Held quarterly , the Financial Literacy Class is sponsored by the Cooper Basin Credit Union . Dinner is served first and then a presentation covering topics such as credit , budgeting , and loans . They gave each participant a copy of the presentation and a budget sheet . Everyone left with new T-shirts and one of the guests was awarded a $ 100 gift card .
Upcoming Events - November 26 – Thanksgiving Feast to celebrate our current Family Care Families and prospective Family Care Families .
HAPPY
THANKSGIVING
Your Help - As part of our mission , caring for families , we want to continue the support we are providing to our kinship families . If you are interested in supporting the Family Care Program here are some ways you can help : volunteer for events listed as Family Care , participate in gathering and sharing resources to the kinship population , or help support a family through a financial donation . We at FCFC appreciate all the support our volunteers and donors provide as it takes a team to make transformational work possible .
