Plant of the Month Texas ‘ Silverado ’ Sage
With our recent drought-like weather , this shrub is a great choice for your landscape with the proper preparation .
The only preparation I would make for the bed is to make it a raised bed . The plant does not like heavy , wet soil . The bed does not need to be organically enriched and will perform better if it is not . It will also do well in a large pot .
It is a pretty shrub that grows 4 ’ tall and round . It can be kept smaller with pruning . It has small , dense growing silver leaves and lavender flowers throughout the growing season . Just remember to water is regularly until it is established and then water only sparingly afterwards , plant it in a well-drained area and do not fertilize and you ’ ll have a really pretty border or accent shrub .
• Replenish mulch around trees and shrubs .
• If you are planning on doing any landscaping or tree replacements , fall is the best time of the year for this . They will have plenty of time to establish a good root system over the fall and winter .
