ON THE COVER
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Mark Smith
Club President
This month’s update will be brief,
since I am writing this between
golf rounds while on vacation.
However, I took time out to
return to Fort Collins to attend
our Board meeting and to meet
with Scott and the staff on some
progress updates on our financial
performance, membership
promotion, and of course, our
construction project. Let me give
you a few highlights:
The construction project is moving along very
nicely. We were approved by the county on our
non-conformance petition. We are now moving
forward with demolition of the cart barns and
modifying the entrance between the clubhouse and
the grill to improve access during construction. You
all should have received Scott’s message regarding
the construction zone for the summer and a map to
keep you informed of the “alternate” paths we’ll need
to utilize during construction. We will emphasize
communication to make sure you know what’s going
on with the project this summer. I’d like to thank
everyone in advance for their patience. I would also
like to personally thank Drew Stapelman, our Facility
Manager, for his above-and-beyond efforts on the
numerous issues that come up on a project like ours.
We are very lucky to have someone with Drew’s
leadership and technical skills on our team.
I am pleased to say that we are on track financially
through the first 5 months of our fiscal year. We’ve
set ourselves up for a solid summer of results. We
are slightly ahead of last year’s exit in membership
numbers (up 5), which is good for this time of
year. We’ve seen great momentum in social/tennis
members and we really are expecting to see a big
increase in golf members as the weather improves.
We are hosting “open houses” twice a month in April,
May and June. We’ll be sending out announcements
to members in addition to running a direct mail
campaign. I encourage you to invite potential
members to these events. You and your guests will
get to meet with every department leader to get an
appreciation for all of the wonderful programs we
offer.
Finally, I’ll mention a few miscellaneous updates. For
those who attended our Strategic Planning sessions
in August, you’ll remember that we were planning to
close a deal with a development bordering Richards
Lake to buy 50 golf and 25 tennis memberships. That
agreement was completed in March on schedule and
consistent with the terms we presented. The Board is
also working on updating our logo. We are trying to
make sure it appeals to our target members, existing
members, and works well for apparel sales. You will
hear more on this topic this summer.
Spring has sprung and summer is just around the
corner. See you at the Club!
