Above : We smelled smoke but had no idea the 1,000-acre Vinegar Fire was burning in the area until we popped out of the trees and came upon this U . S . Forest Service fire security truck . Our route was supposed to go down that gravel road in the distance , but we were re-routed onto pavement to the town of Ukiah . Right : One of several massive fallen trees we had to navigate around since going over wasn ’ t an option !
