Red Rocks
If you enjoy riding in places with wide-open spaces , in areas where the quality of scenery is high and the density of population is low , then Utah is hard to beat . Of the Beehive State ’ s 84,899 square miles , two-thirds is federal land . That includes five national parks and more than 50,000 square miles managed by either the Bureau of Land Management or U . S . Forest Service . There are thousands of miles of paved roads , dirt roads and OHV trails , as well as campgrounds , historic sites and topography that ranges from salt flats to snowy peaks to red-rock reefs and canyons . BLM Road 100 , which winds its way through Onion Creek Canyon east of Moab , crosses the shallow waterway more than three dozen times in just a few miles . Steep canyon walls , funky-looking spires and very few people make it one of Utah ’ s countless options for an epic adventure . Photo by Kevin Wing
