Magic Kingdom
The Kingdom of Norway is a magical place for motorcyclists . Dominated by rugged , mountainous terrain shaped by glaciers , the long , narrow country occupies the western and northern parts of the Scandinavian peninsula , with onethird of its 1,100-mile length situated above the Arctic Circle . Although Norway ’ s land area is only slightly larger than that of New Mexico , its jagged coastline — including 1,900 finger-like fjords — measures 18,000 miles . Add in nearly 240,000 islands , and the coastline extends to a staggering 63,000 miles . Rich in oil and mineral deposits , Norway invests heavily in roads , bridges , tunnels and ferries to keep its widely dispersed population connected , and it keeps the pavement in nearperfect condition . From Westkapp to Nordkapp , from Trollstigen ( Troll ’ s Road , pictured ) to the famous Atlanterhavsvegen ( Atlantic Ocean Road ), it ’ s a two-wheeled wonderland . Just bring your rain gear — the scenic western coast gets as much as 120 inches of rain per year . Photo by Mircea ( Bereta ) Bezergheanu
