A lead singer asks if I want to have dinner with the divine providence , but I settle for the continental breakfast in the motel lobby .
Many years ago a writer for “ Life ” magazine dubbed this stretch of the Lincoln Highway “ The Loneliest Road in America ” and quoted a timid spokesperson for AAA : “ It ’ s totally empty . There are no points of interest . We don ’ t recommend it . We warn all motorists not to drive there unless they ’ re confident of their survival skills .” The state responded by embracing the title ( it ’ s part of the road signs ) and issuing Route 50 Survival Kits .
