Fernie Alpine Resort Silk / Manchuria / Scandia Loop
Distance: Up to 11km Return Elevation Gain: Approx 110m at start + up to 200m additional
A beautiful excursion through mature cedar and larch forests. These wide multi-use trails are usually cat-groomed daily and are perfect for all abilities with a variety of distance options. The initial groomed trail that takes riders up to where the Silk Trail starts has some uphill sections that can be a grunt. Once you reach the Silk Trail there are minimal climbs depending on if you only do the Silk- Manchuria Loop or include the longer Scandia Loop. Either way this riding option is a good workout! Please refrain from riding on the track-set Nordic trails. Dogs are welcome, under control.
Location & Details
Fernie Alpine Resort is just 7km from downtown Fernie, with plenty of parking available. Park and start from the back of Parking Lot # 4. The multi-use trails are offered on a complimentary basis with users encouraged to enjoy the resort facilities including food & beverage outlets, retail and rental and repair services.
Guided Fat Bike Tours
1.5 hour guided fat biking tours are available on Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Fat bike rental is included!
Groomed trails are maintained by passionate locals for the benefit of everyone. Freshly groomed trails after a snowfall can be soft initially and are sensitive to impacts and ruts that can make the next users experience a less happy one. Fixing bad ruts also puts a lot of extra work on the groomers. To keep the trails in the best shape for everyone please help avoid creating ruts, lower your tire pressure( PSI) or wait for trails to harden up.
Mt Fernie Provincial Park
NOTE- this trail area is not machine groomed and is multiuse, but certain trails are snowshoe groomed by passionate fat bikers in the community.
Stove- Hedonism or Dem Bones

A fun, solid workout loop of choice or do them both! Up Stove and either down Hedonism or Dem Bones, or go again and do both loops for a bigger workout and fun ride. These three trails are targeted trails for snowshoe groomers who are also fat biking fanatics. For those up for a bigger challenge, ride up and back Mushroom Head( ungroomed), but if you go down the other side, know you’ ll be ending in town instead of at the Park.
Lizard Creek Trail- Gorby- Old Goat- Happy( New) Gilmar- Sherwoody
Distance: 4km Loop | Elevation Gain: 144m
