1950-1960
We start here in the 1950’s! In the early 1950’smost of the fashion was all about
not wanting to dress like how they did during the war. A lot of the clothing was
extremely boxy and square especially for the men.
- The shoulder pad had a square shape to them
- All suits were double breasted
Dior tried to soften up and feminize the fashion world by releasing a collection
called “New Look”. New Look symbolized a new hope and by that time both the
hope and the style were fully embraced. It had a lot of sweeping long skirts, fitted
waist and rounded shoulders.
Textile turned into:
- Spandex
- Volleyball shorts
- Easy-care fabric finishes
Anything that fit in the suburban lifestyle of the 1950’s.
Because they were more suburban they needed clothing that was more ready-togo. This was mainly for the children and men because the woman fashion was
very much made to appeal to the man:
- Emphasis on the waist
- Corsets/ low cut tops
- Hair/ makeup always done.
-lots of cleavage
– small waist
