1980-1990
1980s clothing was greatly influenced by pop culture. Medias such as MTV had a
great impact on what the younger culture was wearing. People finally had a
media where they could see more of what celebrities were up to! Which had a
great impact on what people wore. Good for us, bad for the celebs… I mean all
they want to do is be normal people! (Ha)
One of these big influences was Madonna. She wore her underwear as outerwear
and suddenly that’s all you saw on the streets! A bunch of girls who want to look
just like the queen of pop. Another big influence was the movie Flashdance.
Flashdance inspired woman to wear tight leggings paired with oversized, baggy
sweatshirts with the necklines cut to drape casually off one shoulder.
