Burberry Announce
New
Chairman
Burberry has announced that Dr
Gerry Murphy has been appointed to
replace outgoing chairman Sir John
Peace.
Murphy's role of chairman will start on
May 17th, ahead of Burberry's annual
shareholder meeting on 12th July.
Peace announced his departure from
chairman after 16 years in June 2017 with Burberrys senior independent director Jeremy Darroch leading the search for a successor.
Murphy previously served as non-executive director of companies including British American Tobacco, Merlin Entertainments and Reckitt Benckiser.
He is currently chairman of Tate and Lyle and of The Blackstone Group International Partners LLP, Blackstone's principal European entity.
Prior to joining Blackstone as a senior managing director in its private equity group, Murphy stood as CEO of Kingfisher, Carlton Communications, Exel and Greencore Group.
Murphy said: "I am honoured to take up this role and to succeed Sir John as chairman.
"Burberry is a unique British brand that I have admired for a long time and I am looking forward to working with Marco Gobbetti and the board to guide the company through its next phase of growth."
