Fashion and coding could not sound more different but yet they are being combined together to create a whole new side of the fashion World. So, why is this happening?
Vogue Magazine have recently launched a huge summit on coding and fashion and how coding will boost this industry. With technology developing more every day, it wasn't going to be long before it took over the fashion industry. Technology is one of the fastest growing sectors and provides more than 200,000 jobs
In fashion, coding can be used from creating a website's software, to 3D-printing. It is a digital technology changing the way we look at fashion, the way we design fashion and the way we make fashion. Fashion technologists are taking designer's ideas and making them 3D with the use of circuits, LED lights and printers. The design is coded into the machine which then makes the garment - futuristic, right?
It is not just designing and making either, coding is needed for software such as websites, spread sheets, keeping track of stock, buying online and sizing. It is so essential in the industry that brands would not be able to function without it.
But how did we cope before coding and before this technology era?
Well, it was simply not needed before. Technology had not developed enough for coding to be needed, online shopping did not exist and computers were not needed. However, with the surge in development of the technology and the IT sector, it is now essential for all companies and brands, whether in fashion or not to have IT specialists. As technology develops rapidly each year, industries - especially fashion - have to develop with it to be relevant and wanted by the consumer.
Where will this take fashion in the future?
It has to be said that the future is unpredictable and especially in terms of how far technology will develop. Fashion is an industry that is ever-changing and has to adapt to its consumer and the World around it to be able to thrive. Technology and fashion will always come hand in hand and it will be exciting to see how they develop and influence each other.
