PEOPLE

People, planet, profit are all affecting issues in the fashion industry. People and their behavior being the main impact, as with out consumers the fashion industry would equate to nothing. The fashion industry can be misleading, very few brands advertise where their product is manufactured and how ethical this process is. It crosses few consumers minds when shopping where the items they are purchasing came from and what this factory might be like and how much the person who made it earns. The Rana Plaza disaster happened in 2013 , this killed over 1,000 workers and the factory was found connected to a number of well know high street brands. The majority of people are unaware that issues like this are going on but since the disaster more than 200 brands have signed the new accord to to improve standards of factories in Bangladesh.

PLANET

Brands such as Nike are starting to consider the environmental effects of their production to the planet. In 2008 Nike launched a movement to create energy from renewable sources, this means now it takes half

the energy and emissions to make a pair of shoes compared to 8 years ago. Nike also started to focus on the amount of water they were using in production, they cut water use by 18% in apparel and 43% in footwear manufacturing. A huge environmental effect on the planet is the waste, Nike started to eliminate waste through more efficient product design and manufacturing. £54,000,000 of factory scrap was transformed into premium materials, they also diverted 94% of waste from landfill. Competitor brand Adidas have partnered with Parley to create shoes made from plastic from the sea, they have come together in a shared vision to reconfigure the way we think about pollution in the ocean. Their aim is to stop plastic from entering the ocean and transforming it into high performance sportswear.
