The Forties Fashion Icons:
Bette Davis: Betty Davis was an icon who was known for her portrayal of unsympathetic characters. She was one of the forties most celebrated actresses known for her forceful style
Rita Hayworth: came to prominence during the forties with films including “Cover Girl” and “Tonight and Every Night”. Her appeal made her a popular sex symbol and pin up girl.
Katherine Hepburn: famously trademarked khakis and open collar shirts while other fashionistas were sucking it in with girdles and outlining their legs with stockings.
Christian Dior's New Look: This was a groundbreaking move in fashion to redfine women's post-war styles and revive France's fashion industry after a difficult few years. The 1947 collection – featuring gorgeous full skirts and waist-cinching jackets – was Dior's first and became forever known as the New Look after Harper's editor Carmel Snow said in 1947: 'It's such a new look!'.
