Specialist Stores are small retail outlets focusing on selling a specific product range. The prices are normally high in these stores and they can be found on the high street or in a shopping centre.

Supermarkets are large self-service shops selling food and household goods. The prices are generally cheap and their target market is families. They are located in residentail areas and the displays within the stores are usually plain, simple and to the point.

Discount And Value Stores are stores where the prices are lower than in normal stores. They have a wide range of goods. They focus on price rather than customer service which means that their customer service may not be the best. An example of a Discount and value store is TKMaxx.

Outlet Stores sell outdated and out of season items at lower prices. The products are usually on sale and the shops rarely feature up to date items. The footfall is high meaning the customer service is not great.

Department Stores offer a wide range of goods and there are sales counters within each department/concession. Some are part of a retail chain, however others are indipendent retailers.

Retail Parks will generally be near main motorways and in places with a lot of space so that there is room for large car parks and expansion. People generally spend all day there as there is often cinemas and restaurants as well as shops.

High Street shops will be small and near many other competing shops. They won't be high end shops because the people that shop there are local people who, depending on the area, may not have a high income.

Local Malls will be near good transport links allowing people to travel there from anywhere. The shops there will be medium sized allowing for a large footfall. Some events may be held there which they shoiuld be able to capacitate for and this will help generate income for the mall.

Out Of Town shops will most likely be department stores or superstores like Debenhams and B&Q. They will be in groups of shops so that they can attract people to visit there when they wouldn't normally because they live far away from them.

In Town shops will be smaller and won't have as big a footfall as the out of town shops or retail parks. They will generally be boutiques or not for profit organisations.
