ERAS ON FASHION

I created a video about three different eras, I chose 1950, 1960 and 1970 because I thought that these had a substantial influence on fashion and the existence of the trends that were carried out in these eras. I wanted to show an insight of these eras by portraying a trend that was set back then, some of the trends are still around today however they have been ‘updated’ for our generation. I interviewed my grandparents about the eras and the era they got married in because my grandma wore a ‘risky’ dress for a wedding in 1950.

My first era was the 1950s, I chose a look from Grease because in my opinion I thought the musical was a good approach on what teenagers wore. In 1950 adults and teenagers had a different approach on fashion to each other, women liked to wear flowing dresses and skirts, they wanted to look like a lady. Where as, teenage girls wore high waisted jeans or leather skinny trousers and jackets. Men wore suits to formal and many informal events, however teenage boys encouraged the bomber jacket look with some leather.

My second era was about 1960 I approached this era with the focus of the mini skirt. I chose to focus on this because in 1965 Mary Quant was the first person to make an appearance of the mini skirt. 1960 was an important era because it gave women the chance to be sexy, however Coco Chanel and Christian Dior did not agree with this. This era had a considerable amount of impact on today’s era because women still wear mini skirts across the world. I wore the mini skirt with a pair of knee high leather boots, when I was learning about the 60s I came across a lot of images of teenagers wearing similar boots. Not everybody agreed on the look however the ones who did, enjoyed the look. Last but not least, my final era was about the 1970s, this era was in high demand of hippies and having the ‘comfortable’ look. I selected a pair of boot cut jeans, clogs and a necklace made from stone. Hippies only believed in natural made accessories so a stone or wood necklace was key, however teenagers now would not be seen with a natural accessory, unless it was from Michael Kors or Chanel.
