The Rana Plaza 8 story factory in Bangladesh collapsed on the 24th April 2013 at 9am due to the poor structure and stability of the building. It trapped thousands of people who were working at the time and over 1000 of those were crushed to death. The building fell due to two extra floors being illegally added making the structure unsafe for people to be in it. The workers knew this yet were threatened if they didn’t come to work, they would lose their jobs.

The Disaster happened in Bangladesh in an 8 story garment factory. No fire brigade or help was given and it was left to local people to pull the workers out of the rubble.

Workers were evacuated the day before through fear the building would collapse but the workers were also told if they didn’t come to work, they would loose their jobs. At 9am on the 24th of April the electricity cut out and the walls started shaking and moments later the building collapsed

Over 1000 of the workers that day were crushed to death by the collapse of the building. After it collapsed many of the victims’ families wanted justice as to who was the blame for the factory being in such a poor condition. The people who own factories in the area are now a lot more cautious on the way in which there buildings are maintained in order to prevent it from happening again.
