decided to enjoy life a little more by going dancing, staying out late, and smoking and drinking in public, all of which are completely normal in today’s society yet back then, this was huge. Skirts were shorter as were hair styles and dresses were looser around the waist. I feel like the 20s was the ‘kick off’ into a revolutionised fashion world because it was the first decade that something changed in the way people dressed and broke rules and were more daring and risky in society, just the beginning for what was about to come. `

The 50s was another huge mark in the fashion world- the Birth of the teenager. I chose this decade because as a teenager myself I relate to this era and the rebellious teens that came with it. The teddy boys were the first ‘self-created’ style and for the first time in history, people began to build themselves an image which made them identifiable. Teens no longer followed what their parents were doing or wearing but instead showed personality and style as well as individuality. I feel this era has impacted on today hugely as it gave teens the confidence to break out of the expectations and be who they wanted to be which no one had done before. In the 21st century, teens are a huge part of the fashion industry and for the teenagers of the fifties to stand up and make a change in what they wore was iconic.

The final decade I chose was the 80s. I chose the 80s based on its creative flare. The 80s had a much more comforting feel. Instead of people dressing up, they dressed down which is something I love. Leisurewear was huge in the eighties and people began to experiment with bright colours and bold prints. Trends of the eighties are seen everywhere today- the choker, a huge trend at the moment was born in the eighties along with cropped jumpers and metallic, all of which can be found after a stroll down Oxford Street. My parents grew up in the eighties and I think that’s why I chose it also, it was so interesting to take a look at their old photo albums or polaroid’s to see their styles and fashions when they were only kids.

I tried to make my video reflect me by making it casual and informal and just to have a chat about the eras, why I chose them and what was involved at the time. I think my videos informs the viewer well about what life was like during those times but I think if I were to do it again, I would go through my parent’s old clothes and even my own wardrobes to do a look book type video to which I can talk over, I think that way it would make it a bit more interactive rather than me just talking.
