Thailand- Koh Samui, Koh Phangan & Koh Tao
Koh
Samui, Koh Phangan & Koh Tao
A tantalising trio of islands
Rising from the warm Gulf of Thailand, Koh Samui greets visitors with gorgeous soft sand beaches ranging from busy to blissful, a superb selection of hotels and a pristine interior. The island’ s hub is lively Chaweng. Here, sun worshippers flock to its impressive beach, watersport enthusiasts will find thrills galore, night owls are lured by its bright lights, restaurants and bars, while the gently sloping waterline also appeals to families. For more serene spots, try Lamai which although quieter offers many dining and shopping options; Taling Ngam is tranquil and family-friendly; secluded Thongson is a great place to chill; and sophisticated Bo Phut exudes old-world charm plus is handily placed for Fisherman’ s Village with its boutiques, trendy restaurants, amazing Thai street food and Friday evening market. Additional island highlights include the Big Buddha shrine, inland waterfalls and walking trails, plus the offshore Mu Ko Ang Thong National Marine Park affords uninhabited beaches, fertile mangroves and superb snorkelling and diving. Pint-sized Koh Phangan may be famed for its monthly Full Moon parties, but beyond Haad Rin’ s nightlife this is a wonderfully laidback island. Much of it remains untouched with sheltered bays fringed by nodding palms and a rich interior of soaring peaks, tumbling waterfalls and dense jungle. Jungle-topped Koh Tao( Turtle Island) is small, yet perfectly formed, and gaining in popularity. Beach lovers and dive enthusiasts are welcomed by white-sand beaches and coral reefs teeming with marine life.
