Nestling majestically beside the Andaman Sea and bursting with natural beauty, Krabi is one of Thailand’ s most attractive provinces. In fact, conjure up the quintessential Thai image of colourful longtail speedboats bobbing on brilliantly blue water amidst a backdrop of limestone karsts and you’ re pretty much picturing Krabi. Popular Ao Nang is the tourist hotspot with a mix of beaches, bars, restaurants and souvenir shops. It’ s also a great base for water-related activities and longtail boat trips to offshore islands. Ten minutes north are Klong Muang’ s powdery sands where the well-established village has a modest array of shops and simple restaurants along with a chilled vibe. Accessible only by boat, Phra Nang and Railay are Krabi’ s star offerings. Here, the impossibly aquamarine water and sumptuous beaches are watched over by tropical trees and jungle-topped crags. Krabi’ s appeal extends below the waves, with more than 30 dive sites and countless snorkelling locations brimming with thriving coral gardens and vibrant marine life. In Krabi Town, while away an hour or two in a cosy cafe, browse the market or follow the riverside walkway to the fishing port, where restaurants specialise in seafood. Alternatively, boat trips give a close-up view of the scenic mangrove-lined channels fringing the Krabi estuary. |

Getting there: Flights from Bangkok to Krabi take about 1 hour 20 minutes. Private transfers are included.
Best time to go: November-March when humidity is lower. The hottest months are April-May and September-October( also the wettest). However, even during the rainy season, there’ s lots of sunshine between the short, heavy downpours.
