Comprising a cluster of townships and string of beaches stretching some 20 miles along the coast, Khao Lak is a delightful bolthole for a lowkey flop and drop. The nearby Similan Islands, an archipelago of nine uninhabited islands with white sand beaches and crystal waters, make for a great day trip. Recognised as providing some of the world’ s best snorkelling and diving, the warm waters teem with aquatic life and if you’ re lucky, you may get to swim alongside sea turtles!

Best time to go: Khao Lak has a tropical monsoon climate enjoying warm weather year round, although November-March is considered the best time. Rain( usually short heavy downpours) can be expected May-October.
