Take the donkey over to the Westerners’ camp; they will be waiting for this food.” The young teenager turned in response to his mother’s call. He waved to his two friends and ran across to where she stood. A donkey stood next to her with wicker baskets hanging either side of its back. The smell of fresh flat bread and heavily spiced lamb drifted up from the clay pots that sat inside the baskets.
