Positive Behavior Interventions Support (PBIS) is a research-based, school-wide approach to
teaching positive behavior to all students. New York School for the Deaf has established a PBIS
team that includes administrators, psychologists, teachers, TAs, and other school staff members.
New York School for the Deaf implements a tiered system to increase positive school behaviors.
This tier system provides a framework that allows for acknowledgment of students who follow the
rules and display appropriate behaviors. Equally as important, the system has built-in support to
demonstrate the use of appropriate and positive behaviors.
2018 Academic Bowl Team
Congratulations to NYSD's 2018 Gallaudet
University Youth Program's Academic Bowl
Team! After two days of back-to-back, high-
pressure matches, NYSD finished with 3 wins
and 3 losses overall. In the quarterfinal match,
NYSD faced the 2017 champions (Rockville High
School) and led for most of the match, losing only in
the last round. It was a heated match and Fanwood
gave RHS a challenging competition!
These students have been working and studying to
prepare for the competition and they truly made
Fanwood proud! The goal of the Academic Bowl is
to foster the pursuit of academic excellence, promote
a spirit of academic competition and sportsmanship,
and provide social opportunities related to higher
education, such as college and universities.
