Since Yahoo 360 (a now defunct social media site) I have been, along with so many others...taking my own pictures. I remember not having the advantage of a reverse camera, or a timer...and having to be creative and resourceful with graphics to fix the messy bits.
Seven years later...I'm still taking my own pics. I promise that I TRY to allow others to take pics of me, but very few people know my angles and good side...let alone, what to cut off and what to keep.
Why are we so obsessed though? Did selfies get birthed from the concept of early social media and the need to let people see us? I remember just needing an "avi" and taking a quick pic, because it was easier than waiting for someone to show up and give me their time. My sister and I took each other's pics all of the time, yet I loved taking my own.
Perhaps the novelty of having a camera within our phone device, created this mania for self-taken photos. All I know, is that even years later...with all the equipment you can purchase *including the fact that most computers come with a built-in webcam*, we still prefer to shoot ourselves at every opportunity.
I'm sure that technology will only IMPROVE the selfie experience, so I have nothing to be ashamed of....even if I get caught taking pics of myself by strangers.
