SLAS TIMES
LET’ S SELECT ELECTIVES!
An editorial by Nikita Krotov
ELECTIVES PROBLEMS
SLAS has a few electives that middle and high schoolers can choose from. However, these few electives don’ t have many varieties. To some students, they are already becoming boring. Students at SLAS need more electives, and the only way to do that is adding more of them.
So, should SLAS have new electives? And if so, which ones?
A WORD ABOUT ELECTIVES
Electives are chosen at the end of the school year, when students are given a special form to choose their classes for the next year. During this time, students consider their future – who will they share classes with? Which electives will land them in the same schedule as their best friends? Of course, next year they will reconsider their life choices because they didn’ t get the same schedule as their friends, but that’ s not the point. During the electives selection, student’ s options include, and are limited to, some foreign language classes, cooking, business, journalism, digital media, and other options such as creative lab.
FROM THE STUDENTS
Students will obviously want more electives to choose from, looking at the previously shown list. So this begs the question, what do the students want? To find out, I took a survey of SLAS students to see which electives they would most want to see on an electives selection sheet.
According to the survey analytics, it can be found out that the top pick is Drama. Not too far from that, and placing second, is Choir. And, finally, at third we have Carpentry
Hey, don’ t blame me if“ gaming” isn’ t a top pick.
BUT..!
Should the school add them? In my professional opinion, yes, they should! See now, a lot of things in this school have gotten fairly old and repetitive, and electives are on that list. Sprinkling some more electives onto the school will surely spark students attention and excitement!
LOOSE ENDS MEET
There you have it, then! Students desire new electives, such as drama, choir, and whatnot. As we have previously deducted, the school should, by all means, add these electives to the electives list. Hopefully, our shared hopes aren’ t for nothing, and we will see more electives in the next year.
Until we meet again!
